This is one of my favorite jobs that we’ve done. The customer was looking for something to go around their fireplace that would transition into their carpet well. They really liked the slate look and that is where we started. We showed them Florida Tile’s Legend line which is a high definition porcelain that takes a giant picture of real slate and is printed on the tile with a giant ink jet printer. Legend has a wide color variation giving it that true slate look without the maintenance that is required with natural stones. We did use a real slate pinwheel deco with a marble center that transitions between the tile and new carpet. The customer also wanted the tile to not be laid traditionally with straight grout lines or a checker board pattern. We utilized four different tile sizes and allowed our installer to lay each tile in a random style fitting in a small space without appearing to busy.
